A Gift For Mom - Edmonton Family Photography

I met this family on a chilly day in a snowy park for a special gift session. A gift of memories for mom. What better present could you think of? Full of smiles and laughter we set off through the snow to get some family pictures.

50 Years - Edmonton Event Photography

50 Years...

That is one heck of an anniversary milestone. How do two people get to 50 years? Through all the joy, pain, sadness, happiness, excitement, and adventures that those years provide? These two know the secret and their friends and family gathered to help them celebrate it. We shared memories, smiles, laughter, and tears. Thank you for welcoming me into your happiness.

Little Dreamer - Edmonton Newborn Photography

This little guy definitely made me work. It was a bit of a flash back to when my own daughter was a tiny newborn. He wanted to be held by constantly and settling wasn't something that came easily to him, especially for traditional posed shots. We had to get creative, but it definitely shows why I book so much time for these sessions. Babies have their own schedules.

Evening On Whyte - Edmonton Family Photography

A month ago I did a session with 3 pretty spectacular people. Seriously, have you ever seen anyone pull off effortless impossibly cool like these 3? I'm doubtful that you have. I am biased in this case though, as I've known this family for 10 years now. The kids were so little before, memories flooding my mind of long drives out of the city. They have grown into such awesome individuals. Their mom is pretty spectacular herself, and is definitely one of my favorite people.

For The Birds - Edmonton Engagement Photography

"I once asked an old man: which is more important, to love or be loved? He replied: which is more important to a bird, the left wing or the right wing?"

In a week, these two crazy kids will be married, and I am the lucky photographer who gets to capture the memories.

Adorably awkward, their main request for their engagement shoot was to include the geese.

So on a sunny spring day, we went for a walk.

The geese had their babies so we couldn't get too close, but they did allow us to be near enough to include them.

Autumn Dream A Custom Fairytale - Edmonton Fairytale Photographer

A couple of years ago, I created this little story after a shoot in autumn woods with my daughter. I wanted to transfer it to this blog awhile ago, but time ran away with me and soon the memory followed. For those wanting an example of a custom made fairy tale, here you go!

Once upon a time, in a land not far from your window's view, a little girl went for a walk on an Autumn day.

The leaf strewn path led her deeper and deeper into the enchanted wood. She followed along until her strength began to weaken. She wished the fae to lead her to a spot where she could rest her head.

Against the trunk of a very wise tree, the girl fell into a peaceful slumber...

and awoke, a Princess.

Welcomed greatly by the spirits and tiny creatures, she began her reign.

Wise and just, she ruled the Autumn wood with an incomparable grace.

But heavy is the head that wears the crown. Soon the little Princess longed to return to her home and family.

Quite suddenly, she woke. Her body still against the tree from which she had first slumbered.

But she could not forget her kingdom, and so before heading home after her very long journey the once Princess explored that which was hers to guard.

For if she should ever wish to return,

she only had to seek ...

 and dream...

of her kingdom in the Autumn Wood.

Awakening And Decay - Edmonton Child Photography

My parents have a lot of old cars. Some are fully together, waiting for new life. Some are pieces, remnants of the past. They sit, memories gathering dust.

These old memories, there is beauty in them. This decay makes a most lovely backdrop.

And there is something so hopeful about the trees growing up around them. This forest, rising.

Planning - Edmonton Photographer

Oh winter in Alberta. These things we all come to know, and having lived in this province my whole life, come to expect. The unseasonal warmth we recently welcomed didn't last, but who amongst us really expected it to.

I have spent much of the past month in Edson, sledding and getting trapped in massive amounts of snow. It's been fun. I'll be returning there soon.

For many of those that I know, the big problem with winter is the cold and the snow. I understand, especially when the temperatures drop and playing outside becomes dangerous. Even my camera stops working when it is far too cold.

That all makes the winter lonely, picture wise. My head is filled with ideas and people long to go adventuring, but sometimes we must wait for spring. And surely, with the recent warmth and light bursting through our windows, the longing has increased greatly.

We plan our gardens, and hope for May flowers. We dream of June weddings and the fall of cherry blossoms. We see life exploding before our eyes, we float on seas of greens and sky blue.

Booking is always available, even when the weather isn't cooperating. While you dream of sunny days ahead, travels to far off lands, adventures with loved ones... we can plan to capture memories of your family just as they are. We can create a magical world for your children to be immortalized with. Let us dream, and plan, and create. Let there be a chance to see in yourself all that you are, all that you could be.

Welcome to Five - Edmonton Child Photography

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter turned 5. We initially were going to do her birthday images outside but the cold prevented that from happening. Instead we made use of her bedroom and he princess canopy, which she calls her beauty, for beauty sleep. My girl is growing up.

I don't know that there is anything out there that is more bittersweet. My baby is growing up. I'm happy about it, excited and proud of the person she is becoming. I marvel in the new things she can do. She tells me that she can't wait to grow up. I look at her, amazed and think... but no, just stay like this for a little while longer. Just stay little for a little while longer. I'm not ready for you to be grown just yet.

I know that nothing good lasts forever.

There she is, with stardust in her eyes...

Thankful - Edmonton Maternity Photography

All of my sessions are special to me. I am thankful for every client that trusts me with their memories. I'm thankful for everyone who likes the images I create and for those who allow me into their lives for a short time. This session is special to me for a number of reasons. The first being that this is a dear friend of mine and soon she's going to be the mom of a beautiful baby girl. The second being that I shot her wedding in September 2012. That is 2 pretty incredible life moments that I have gotten to document and really it means the world to me. The little girl who will make this woman a mother for the first time is coming into a family filled with love, and her arrival is eagerly awaited.

One Autumn Afternoon Part 6 - Edmonton Family Photography

Just look at this bright and bubbly family. So much energy and excitement came with their session! I really love when families are willing to be silly and have fun with their photos. I think it shows more truth and more beauty. And these guys were not of smiles and happiness for their session. I hope that I'll get to see them again!

One Autumn Afternoon Part 5 - Edmonton Family Photography

This little guy wasn't too sure about me or the fedora wearing secret agent platapus that sits on the end of my camera. But I think we captured some beautiful moments for his family. They were so much fun, being silly and playing, just being themselves and letting me capture it. I hope that I'll get to photograph them again!

One Autumn Afternoon Part 4 - Edmonton Family Photography

This family is pretty special in my books. Why? Because that's one of my beautiful sisters in law with her kids! He was always on the go, searching the woods, shaking leaves from the trees, and turning sticks into swords. She wasn't feeling that good, so seriousness ruled the day, as well as cuddles from her mommy.

One Autumn Afternoon Part 3 - Edmonton Couples Photography

Let's take a moment to talk about how cute these two are together, shall we? This was their first photo shoot together, and I hope that it won't be their last! They completely rocked it. I don't get the opportunity to shoot couples that often but it can be a lot of fun, especially when you are as happy as these two.

One Autumn Afternoon Part 2 - Edmonton Family Photography

This wasn't my first time meeting this lovely family. I have been photographing this little charmer since he was 3 months old. Which, in my books, makes me a pretty lucky photographer. We had so much fun exploring the through the trees, still holding their leaves. There was a ball and some catch. Just some time in an autumn kissed park with a family enjoying being together. What could be better then that?

On a cool Autumn afternoon I met with some beautiful families for mini sessions. This family was first up and aren't those girls just adorable?! They certainly made me work for those smiles but we had so much fun!

Pheonix Reborn - Edmonton Portrait Photography

"There was a silly damn bird called a phoenix back before Christ, every few hundred years he built a pyre and burnt himself up. He must have been first cousin to man. But every time he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again. And it looks like we're doing the same thing, over and over, but we've got one damn thing the phoenix never had. We know the damn silly thing we just did."

Oh Mr. Bradbury, how your words inspire my creativity. That quote is from the novel, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

If you've never read the novel, firstly, get yourself to a library or bookstore! It's set in a dark future, one where firemen start fires instead of putting them out. They burn books and the government considers them to be dangerous things. But one fireman changes everything.

“We're going to meet a lot of lonely people in the next week and the next month and the next year. And when they ask us what we're doing, you can say, We're remembering. That's where we'll win out in the long run. And someday we'll remember so much that we'll build the biggest goddamn steamshovel in history and dig the biggest grave of all time and shove war in it and cover it up.”
